I am so proud of the Lady Firebirds! They dominated Centerville in the first half on Saturday at Troy HS, and went on to win by 6! They have to go to Harrison on Saturday and do the same with Springboro (Ranked State AP #8). Every time they step on the court they know they can win when they bring their 'A' game. They also probably have the best website of any girls or boys team. Check it out: www.fairmontgirlshoops.com.

Happy Valentine's Day to all of the women who visit the RC from both Flounder and I.........this will be our last poll of the year (now, no crying) as we bring the "Flounder & Rocketman's" girls high school rankings to the close of our 7th glorious year together.........with our poll champs being crowned today we would welcome all of the coaches to the Varsity Club on Thurs. March 6th to be honored with their plaques..........it will take place in the very cozy basement confines and should tip off around 8pm..........if the teams playing at this time would like to send a representative that would be quite all right by us.......

For the first time in memory, all 4 of my pre-season picks ended the season on top..........a rare feat no doubt .......and it wouldn't surprise me one iota if they all swept the hardware come tourney weekend....a great big thanks goes out to Flound who keeps my spirits up through the long, cold winter with the tantalizing thought of enjoying another tournament weekend watching some of the country's finest talent showcasing their skills on the floor at the Schott.........

not much changed in my statewide rankings unless you count the fact that Circleville finishes as my #3 and is left out in the cold in the AP's final straw poll............they will be one tough out mark my words..........even NW Ohio didn't see much movement the last few weeks as the cream, as they say, always rises to the top..........and in this case there's a lot of Cool Whip on hand.........again, thanks to everyone who follows our poll and we wish you well until we meet again.........zoooom

to view Flounder's rankings later today........

The girls are happy being competitive? According to whom? You don't even go to the freaking games and now you're a spokesperson for the players? Give me a break.

You keep comparing the talent to Springboro. They're ranked what, sixth in the state? That means there are 185 other Division I girls programs with less talent that Springboro. Its just another easy way of bashing on some kids who have been busting their rearends and defending a coach who has only been questioned in one post on here by one person.

It's a free world and this country promotes freedom of speech. That means you have the ability to continue posting mealy-mouthed ignorance for the 110 folks who will read this thread. But God help the WC athletes if your screen name indicates you're on the staff somewhere in the district. My guess is that you're just another disgruntled daddyballer (as one respected parent laughingly calls them) who was snubbed somewhere along the line.
Apologies ring hollow when you keep going back to support the reason you apologized, then pile more on top of it.
You developed thick skin? Congrats. Now its time to understand that not everybody is as perfect as you.

Let me try and set this straight again. I replied to an original post about poor coaching for the WC girls. There have been people on this board for several years now complaining about the coaching at WC. Gordy Gibson was a good coach and man, but could not take the losing and the complaining parents and players any more. He chose to simplify his life and I’m sure he is a happier man for it. When Seifert took over there were people on this board praising the coaching change, and that things were already better in the preseason. Then after another bad year he was getting bashed by people on here. Now Helter is there, and I am yet to read a post of someone praising him. I was merely trying to state that the problem is deeper than coaching. John Wooden would not have had a winning season with any of the teams over the last 5 years. Go back even further when Nancy Williams and Roxy Laycox were the coaches, it was their fault also the girls program lost according to all the spectators. THE PROBLEM IS DEEPER THAN COACHING!!!!!! I apologize for upsetting the one mom so much. I am glad she brought her daughter to WC. WC needs more good people and athletes. I do doubt however that Tenae would be getting playing time at CJ. I am happy for the team putting up a good showing against Wilmington, but that is part of the problem. The girls are happy to just be competitive, which they have not been in many games over the last several years. I wish them nothing but the best, but I’m sure the lack of talent will show in the tournament against Springboro. I apologize for upsetting anybody, but can’t anybody develop a thick skin? I was told constantly as a player that I sucked by multiple people, but I didn’t whine about it. If you step up to go out in front of people to perform is sports, music, theater, whatever you better be prepared to take criticism. Now I know this is not Pro sports, and I am not an ESPN analyst, but it does not take that much knowledge of the game to determine the talent level for WC girls basketball has got to improve for the program to begin winning. Again, I’m sorry if you are offended by anything I have posted.

the Flounder & Rocketman's girls high school rankings have an early deadline this Sunday as I can see myself pretty pre-occupied come Sunday evening.........a bunch of us are heading over to Findlay's BW3's to enjoy the game and all that it embodies .........

this marks Week 12 of our poll and everything is starting to fall into place not unlike year's past.........the perennial powers continue to make their way back up the charts, while the early season pretenders see their hopes of a poll championship dashed......

Marion Harding goes to Pick Central and flames out in D1........Springboro loses a close one to 'Creek and drops a few rungs on the ladder.........in D2, Canfield stumbles a bit but I'll keep them in my rankings because of all the nice presents their booster club has showered on the Flound and I this season.......D3 remains pretty clean and the only change in D4 is the exchange of positions between Ottoville and DSJ...........tournaments will begin shortly so all of these rankings won't mean jacksquat ...........a few upsets will surely occur, but by and large, the best teams will continue down the tournament trail.........

and talking of the tourney trail .........the Flound and I will be in attendance during the girl's state tournament scheduled for Mar. 6-8 again this year.......the Varsity Club on Thursday will indeed be a special place to hang your hat as we will present our 6th annual poll championship trophies to the winning coaches in each division..........also, the RocketCorner is going to be partnering up to bring you these games via webcasts..........it looks to be another very competitive year and who knows what lies in store..........thanks also to everyone who continues to read and respond to our rankings...........zooooom

Bolender nailed a three with no time left on the clock to tie the game at the end of regulation. But sadly they just fell short. Everyone played great. My daughter is a child who makes no decisions about where she will attend. For your information and for whomever else feels that it is any of their business, I accept responsibility for the decision. Because of a dangerous personal situation that I was able to escape from and because I could no longer afford the tuition at Chaminade Julienne, Tanae and I were forced to relocate to the West Carrollton area. Tanae is much more than simply a basketball player. Recently inducted into National Honors Society and a Christian young woman, she has plenty of options in her life and she (unlike you) recognizes that life is about a whole lot more than dribbling a basketball. It was very hurtful for her to read your post and I would hope that you would be more sensitive in your opinions. Tanae and I have been supportive to every team that she has participated on and will continue to do so. Many of the teammates on all of her teams continue to regard her as a friend that they can rely on. Whether or not she is a good enough basketball player in your "inteligent" (this is how you spelled it!) opinion matters little, as you may agree most of the girls who play and enjoy the sport will go on to do other things. Please consider being kinder in the sharing of your opinion, or perhaps even break down and HELP this or any team. Criticism of others is not helpful. You mentioned a friend of Tanae's, Olivia who is an outstanding young woman, and is an outstanding basketball player. Her team play, sportsmanship, and commitment is unmatched as is the rest of the WC players. I am disappointed in you and really wish that people could choose to be more kind to one another. I am positive that Coach Helter, who has remained faithful, would welcome any helpful assistance that you might have to offer, and if not I am positive that he and the girls would appreciate you sharing a whole lot less of your opinions.

I am not remaining anonymous, you can reach me at 937-609-3493 anytime. I simply love talking to "inteligent" people like yourself.

If you want to develop a solid program, the coach has to have a chance. Helter has been the coach for what 2-3 years and as bad as this program has been it takes time to develop players and programs. I have seen almost every home game this year and some practices so I think I have a pretty good idea of what the team has. From day one till today the girls have shown a major improvement not just varsity but JV also. Do you know the biggest problem with theses girls is confidence if they had some they would play like they did tonight against Wilmington. That was by far the best girls game I have seen all year. If they play that way against Bellbrook and Madison they could win both and possible give Boro all they can handle but they need to believe. Don't forget that his "terrible" coaching won them a tourney game something that hasn't been done in WC since what forever.

I have no reason to be offended. I'm just making semi-educated observations. I wouldn't make observations about the boys team without seeing them, judging them solely on the box score.
BTW....Clark is a junior, not a senior.
Also, if it's so convenient to bring up Boro and Burg due to proximity, why not bring up Jefferson?
As for coaching, there's more to developing a program than setting up an inbounds play or deciding who is going to trap the corner in the 1-3-1. Embracing the middle school and youth programs would be a start. Establish a skill set of fundamentals all way down to the rec leagues for those coaches. Bring the young kids in for games and recognize them. Maybe its a case of developing the talent that exists rather than placing the blame on it not being there at all.

This week's "Flounder & Rocketman's Rankings brings a few small changes to most of the poll........Springboro makes a return to the top 10 in D1, while Richfield Revere's fanbase has been heard loud and clear in D2.....(crisp $20's in an envelope is music to my ears ).......also Circleville's two huge wins vs. Miami Trace and Alter have catapaulted them into the #5 position this week and I hope that I am not jinxing their good luck by inserting them here.............I continue to struggle with the D3 rankings as it seems that this division is uncannily even in talent, or that other than Versailles and Regina the division remains wide open.........we shall see in the upcoming weeks.......

in D4, Lutheran East is making a strong statement for #1, but Africentric's showing in the Classic in the Country doesn't allow me the wiggle room I need right now........in my NW poll, Marion Harding has pulled far ahead of AW in my estimation with a solid win over the Amber Stokes' led Gahanna Lincoln outfit yesterday afternoon.....(are you listening JoeBob? )..........Ottoville slips off the top rung of the ladder in D4, and the Lady Blue Jays are right there to help them back onto the podium......(I wonder if that good sportsmanship will be shown next Sat?).........my D3 leader is Liberty Benton, and I have them perched in the top 10 in the state also..........the AP voters are missing a good one here, and are starting to lose a little more cred with their continued indifference..........

I hope everyone received the email that I had sent to our members (it's the same one as on our homepage right now) yesterday concerning the Flound and I's good time this past weekend in Berlin........enough good things can't be said about this shindig and I would really like for someone to take the hint and try one on this side of the state in the future..........now sit back at your computer desk and enjoy the best girls rankings........thanks zoooom

If you look back, I originally posted in response about Helter being a poor coach. I was just trying to merely state that WC has been through several coaches over the last several years, all of which are not slack-jawed-yokels who know nothing about basketball. The problem is deeper than coaching. When you lose as many games as the WC girls have, by as many points as they have, they do not have talented enough players to win. I am not speaking only of this year. I could not even guess when the last time they had a winning season is. I would guess you have a daughter, or a friend, or just somebody you care about on the team and I offended you by saying that she is not talented. If that is the case then I apologize. If that is the case though, you need to step back and look at the WC players as players only, not as kids that you care about personaly. I guarantee you that WC girls comand virtually no respect from their opponents. As far as me picking Boro and Burg, I just picked two nearby districts. When Boro beat WC 72-10 they could have probably scored 100. Boro had 11 players score! That means they emptied their bench and took it easy on WC. Also in the 1st and 3rd quarters when Boro was most likely playing their starters, WC didn't even score. They lost 18-0 and 15-0. The 2nd and 4th quarters Boro won 19-5 and 20-5. That means WC still got killed by what was most likely Boro's backup and JV players. Now, I was not there, but a sign of inteligence is being able to make inferences, and based on this information, which is all accurate, I have infered that the WC girls do not have much talent. I know Olivia is a nice girl, but I'm sorry, she would not play at many other schools. Tenae left CJ for a reason, because she was not going to play there.
I would very much like to see WC girl's basketball turn around. I am very happy for the boy's team, and the school needed a season like this after the horrible football season. Believe me, I am a WC supporter. I would like to see WC excel in all sports. I am not bad mouthing the kids nor am I judging them. The girls that are there must have strong character to endure what they have had to, especialy a girl like Olivia who has been there since a Freshman and has had three different coaches in four years. I don't need to see the girls everyday to draw the conclussion that they have strong character, just like I don't need to see them play to conclude that the team just doesn't have that much talent. These girls have not had much succes on the basketball court, but they will be better more determined people in life because of what they have had to persevere. If I offended you in any way in this post then I apologize again.

Pretty convenient for you to pick Burg and Boro. Why not really raise the stakes and say CJ, Alter and Beavercreek? Or instead, compare them to the kids on the teams they HAVE beaten.
The fact is, both the senior guards would play at Boro and Burg. Start? That's speculation. From what I've been told, Burg's bench isn't exactly as deep as its been.
Finally, I find it interesting that you can come on a site like this and discuss the "talent"of a high school kid without seeing him or or her play. Newspaper reports, scores or whatever. I would imagine you wouldn't appreciate being evaluated on your job by somebody who has never set foot in your place of business.

So does DDN have the stats wrong that they haven't even broke 30 points in a game 8 times and had a high score in the teens twice, icluding only 10 points against Springboro? I don't need to see them play to know they don't have much talent when I look at these numbers. Basketball is about putting the ball in the hole and stopping the other team from doing it. These numbers show they do not have anybody with any real talent, because if they did she would be scoring 20 a game by herself due to the lack on anybody else to score. The reason Messer was able to score quite a bit on that team from last year was because of this. Since I have not seen them play enlighten me on their talent please. Which player on their team would be capable of playing for Miamisburg or Springboro?

What a day the Flound and I had yesterday..........some great girls action and we saw 2 verry good games and the entire lineup of this shindig is second to none........I want to thank Dan Olson from the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report for allowing the Flound to have his seat on press row for the NCH/Africentric game.........all he could talk about on the way home last night was how great of an event this is.............we started to wonder why someone doesn't try this on this side of the state?.............Lima, with all it's hotels, restaurants, and the new LSH facilities would make a great venue for girls basketball fans over on the west side...........easy highway access with I-75, US 30 and US 33 makes this a no-brainer in our minds..........and having it over the MLK weekend could certainly ease tensions around here ........

There are still lots of games being played this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow over in Berlin so these rankings still could be shuffled following the conclusion..........also, wanted to throw out a big thank you to Don & Linda Merriman at "A Day in the Country" bed and breakfast Inn where we stayed ........after a long day of sightseeing in the Amish backcountry and then the basketball it was a real slice of heaven to relax in the jacuzzi as we unwound after a long day..........

overall my rankings pretty much remained the same as there's really nothing that happened (other than Princeton's win vs. TCC) that surprised me...........hope that everyone is staying warm this evening in frigid Ohio as we pore over the girls tournament drawings that were held earlier today............thanks for reading the "Flounder & Rocketman's" high school rankings and we continue to appreciate your comments...........zooooooom

Does anyone at DDN really understand girls basketball. Obviously not, lets look at the DII ratings. I'm OK (for now) with Kenton Ridge at No.1. That's also their current state ranking, but lets look at the rest of the list. Carroll just beat Alter this past week, does that not give them the better head to head match-up. The week before Tippecanoe beat Carroll, same rule applies. DDN - It's time to recognize that not everything from Kettering or Centerville has to be on top!! Here is the way you should have your ratings. 1)Kenton Ridge, 2)Tippecanoe, 3)Carroll, 4)Alter and 5)Bellbrook. And this will change after Tipp beats Kenton Ridge in the rematch at Tipp Saturday!

I have seen them a couple of times this year and an equal amount last year. They have just as much "talent" as last year. You can actually blame last year's senior class and the class before it for the problem with the program.
Things are really starting to heat up the rankings as the AP voters have finally decided to join the fray ...after 9 weeks of the "Flounder & Rocketman's Rankings they were certainly starting to feel the heat and I would venture a bet to any of them who cast a vote last week.............."I will take my First week's rankings from the middle of November against the AP's first week on the number of teams that make a regional or state appearance"..........that's laying the rep on the line for all to see and I don't see anyone else (other than Flounder) who has the guts to do it.......that's why we are the #1 source for high school girls rankings in the state...........we ain't exactly shy about our knowledge of the girl's game and what it will look like come March...........

My D1 rankings saw a little shuffling as Pick Central is replaced by it's sister school........Pick North........also Toledo Central Catholic makes their first appearance this week.........In D2, only 1 change as Hoban falls out and Miami Trace returns after a 4 week hiatus........

D3 continues to baffle me.........I rank 'em, they proceed to lose..........I rank another one, ditto..........so for those of you who continue to send envelopes with your team's mascot on them....you might wannna think about it some more .........My Pleasant Spartans make their first appearance as I've taken the AP's cue. (probably not the best idea I've had this week, but we'll see how it works out)..........and finally in D4, a little shakeup as Hiland slides a few, and Stryker climbs all the way out of my "others receiving votes" to a lofty #10 in the poll..........once again, thanks to everyone who reads our poll and unlike the others we welcome feedback and comments..........zooooooom
