Just saw the news that the US District Judge has approved the settlement of the AK Retirees VEBA Health Trust. I'm really glad this is settled and we can move on and enjoy our retirement years, without worry about insurance. For those of us who aren't old enough for Medicare coverage, this WAS a big worry! This agreement may not be perfect, but it assures our health care. SARG

This will be my last comment, and I don't want to be rude, but-----------
1. By the time the court rules on this decision, it will be too late, we should have had an opportunity to voice our opinion up front.
2. Yes, you can petition the court if you have the funds to hire an attorney!
3. Some of us have very serious health problems, that require ongoing medical care, and without health insurance, that covers pre-existing conditions, you can't afford medical care and medications. How much is new insurance going to cost for 4600 seniors retirees, especially if you're not 65 and not getting medicare. Dental and eye care benefits are good benefits, but there are more serious health issues. Again thank everyone who has read my messages.

Let's wait for the information. The court has to rule, etc.
At the last CARE meeting, the president stated that if you
didn't agree, you could petition the court.
AK is going to improve their position no matter what.
I have heard we will lose eye and dental and pay an affordable
premium. Probably rumors.

CARE has not responded to my e-mail request for information, still!
If you all remember, CARE did not announce this settlement, AK Steel announced it!
I quess we should ask AK what is in this settlement!
Really, even though we are "just members" of the class action, some one will have to tell us what's up. CARE did not have any difficulty asking for donations but has not been open to answer our questions. Live and Learn!

I didn't give anyone my consent, except for the lawsuit to stop AK from changing our benefits. Nothing was mentioned about what if a negotiation takes place out of court. How can they negotiate on this lawsuit WITHOUT getting the approval of the majority of the 4600? However, what we all have to remember is that only 9 people were named on the lawsuit and I guess could negotiate until the cows come home. The rest of the 4591 were under CLASS ACTION and may have to take what they get. BUT, I'm not going down without a fight. Going to go personally to the CARE office and protest. Also going to call Michael Bailey and ask what the he--'s going on. We might have been better off taking what AK originally wanted us to take when this is all over. At least with that we still had Anthem.

I have emailed my concerns regarding the Retiree's Healthcare Settlement by CARE and AK Steel, directly to CARE. I believe, if you are concerned, please call or
email CARE and request an informational meeting with CARE and their attorneys, prior to this settlement, because this settlement will affect all our lives and we should have a voice. I'm not saying this settlement isn't in our interest, but when this was done without your knowledge and others make decisions for you, how do you know??

Who gave CARE the right to negotiate our earned health care benefits and change them to a VEBA Trust, without even notifing the 4600 retirees. The stated goal of CARE was to preserve our benefits. With AK stating 2.1 billion is the cost of these benefits and half of that Middletown Retirees cost, the $468M falls way short and health care cost are increasing. Not all retirees are 65 and qualify for medicare, but almost all retirees have some pre-existing health conditions, which would not be covered under any new health insurance. THIS MAY OR NOT BE A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR THE 4600 RETIREES, BUT CARE HAS NOT OBTAINED OUR CONCENT TO NEGOTIATE ON MY BEHALF.
