Haven't heard from our illustrious school board or fine superintendent for awhile. Last contact was about Greggie Tyus having some words with the band members during the Todd Bell ceremony at Barnitz. Surprised we haven't heard a response from Dr. Steve Price concerning the rejection of the rejection of the second or third (lost count) appeal of the land grab from Franklin. The suspense builds as we await the next move (and taxpayer money waste) from our great superintendent. All certainly seem to be keeping a low profile these days.Darn, no ammunition to talk about! What a disappointment!

Agree with you on this too, hah. I believe years ago neighboring districts "stole" MCSD teachers because of the great training and professional development they had as well as their skill set. Now, teachers are "running" of their own will. Ever notice that few principals leave? Could it be that they have such a short contract year for excellent daily rates of pay? And they aren't held accountable for student achievement! Again, it is alack of effective leadership all the way to the top!
Some confusion here, Vette. The curriculum that is mandated by the state is what kids are supposed to learn at each grade. What books are used, what techniques are used - that is up to each district -generally speaking. Sometimes additional money is available for a district if they write a grant and agree to some requirements. No district has to apply for any of this money. That is a district choice. But you can't take the money and use it in some other way.
Schools have changed drastically in the last 5-10 years not to mention the 30 - 40 years you speak of. Kids have changed. Society has changed, Cyberspace is here. State testing is here.
In too many cases, teachers still teach how and what they taught years ago and that doesn't work any more.

Does the district have the option of inventing their own curriculum, realizing that they loose the grant money. Why do they limit the choices for curriculum selections?
The curriculum does come from the state. The "how" and the "what" I'm referring to
are the programs selected by the district to teach the curriculum that the state
mandates. There is a difference. The state can say that reading/language arts will
be taught in schools -- the district leaders choose the adopted programs and the
grants they can get to back the programs they have chosen. For example, Reading
First is a grant that is funded with govt. monies. The state doesn't say that we

that the superintendent of Monroe is willing to publicly say that if you aren't going to treat all students the same by enforcing the rules OF ALL STUDENTS, then
those rules shouldn't even be on the books!!?? I applaud her for having the sense
to figure that out -- get control of the students in all areas (hers is dress code) and I'm sure the scores will improve. Comments?

the added enrollment to come with the new schools. Oh...the wonders of the Master Plan. Recall how that was saving Middletown, and the school district. The plan, that was fluff, no meat, no substance? What's the latest drop this calender from last year? District dropping $300K in attorneys, litigation, and consultants with no gain. In 20 years, Middletown's population will be 90% senior citizens. Its dying. And the audicity to state it was because of a shortened day. Look at the NEA data, shortened days improve performance and focus. Ad nauseum.

It's all a matter of interpretation of No Child Left Behind and what the admins. think the teachers should be doing. Teachers have very little say in what and how
they teach these days. They do programs to get grant money from the govt. The
excuse of "shortened days"....that was Dr. Price's idea anyway to shorten the days!
